Restaurant Komasa:
Finally a sushi restaurant I can get behind and also afford. On the way to the restaurant David asked me if this was good fish for the price or good regardless of the price. I find that a lot of people feel this way about sushi. It explains why their are at least ten options in every major city to spend $200 a person on sushi. Thankfully a place like Restaurant Komasa exists where not only did we we eat some of the freshest fish in town but also walked out spending around $25 a person.
I ordered the sashimi combination which came with ten pieces of fish for $16 dollars. The house salad you see with avocado, carrots, and cucumbers was $4.50. Enough about the price though. The fish is so good you don’t even need to eat it with soy sauce/wasabi/ginger. The one fish I wasn’t crazy about was the tuna. A little to thick and not as fresh as the rest of the stuff. Dave loves Uni and was skeptical about ordering it but he left very happy. The unfiltered saki was recommended as a dessert drink that we chose to have for dinner. It was good but not great. The pieces of unagi were tender and crispy around the skin.
The design of the restaurant reflects the food. Simple, clean, and small. (Small=prices not portions.) The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and had no qualms with answering the annoying questions like, what is sushi?, and can you make that a hand roll?. I can’t recommend a sushi place more. Especially, if you are at the end of your unemployment checks and want to go out for a meal that takes your mind off that fact.
Special thanks to Pauling at E Little Tokyo .
