Pita Kitchen:

When we left the Van Nuys courthouse last week Dave said there was a falafel spot nearby that was one of the best he has had. The problem was he didn’t remember where it was but knew it was by a newsstand. After some searching on Yelp’s blackberry application we pulled up to Dave’s destination; Pita Kitchen

This place serves “Middle Eastern” food. It’s not specific to one region or country. They do falafel, shawarma, kabob, and their salad is made up of cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce. From what I can tell they do all of it extremely well. Dave got a grilled chicken plate and I got filet mignon. The biggest problem “Middle Eastern” restaurants have is dry meat.  I was blown away by how moist and tender our meat was. I can’t tell you how often I avoid grilled chicken on menu’s because it is always overcooked. Pita Kitchen cooked the perfect grilled chicken. Our total for two meals and a Middle Eastern coffee was $19.80. How often do you get filet mignon for 10 bucks?

I am learning to like cucumbers. Something about the taste really bothers me. I have slowly started to incorporate it into my diet with things like tzatziki and on this day I took the leap with the salad. The guy gave me extra feta on top to make it more manageable. It did the trick as I basically ate some crunchy feta salad and it was good.

The hummus was nice and smoky and I pretty much ate it by itself with a fork.

The Middle Eastern Coffee tasted like dirt. Like I could feel the grinds trying to sneak between my teeth. Disgusting.

If you are craving “Middle Eastern” food this place is worth a 15-20 minute drive. The food is fresh and if it’s a nice day you can sit outside. You are allowed to browse the magazines at the newsstand for 15 minutes. This is how long it takes to get your food so the whole experience is perfectly executed.
