Brite Spot:
Brite Spot is a 24 hour diner in Echo Park. Carlos and I went there for brunch recently. I am opposed to be brunch because I would rather spend money on lunch or dinner. I don’t like paying for eggs and bacon when I can make them at home for much cheaper. Also I can probably get better coffee if I make it myself, so brunch is a lost concept on me.
Carlos was starving and decided we should start with sweet potato fries. It was both a gift and a curse. A gift because they were great fries. They were cut just the right size to be crispy, but still give you enough surface area for dipping. They came with ranch dressing, which I didn’t like, so I swapped it out for bleu cheese. Their bleu cheese mysteriously tasted a lot like ranch with little cheese chunks on the bottom. I wasn’t down. Once I got a side of a chipotle mayonnaise though, it was off to the races. The curse was we didn’t have room in our stomachs for the egg dishes. They were standard egg dishes but nothing to change my feelings towards brunch.
Carlos really lost himself at Brite Spot and ordered desert. He got a banana, coconut, caramel, chocolate cream pie. That’s like four pies in one. I had never seen such a thing. I helped with some of the cream but I refused to go below that layer for fear of tasting banana.
The Brite Spot is a good place to go if you are looking for diner style food but with a little more care put into the ingredients and preparation.
