China Chows at Her Dad’s Restaurant:

The other night Zac Posen was in town to promote the launch of his Z Spoke collection for Saks. He had a dinner at Mr. Chow to celebrate the launch. The choice of Mr. Chow’s seemed very appropriate for born and bred New Yorker. Mr. Chow’s was the place to go in the 80’s and maybe the 90’s. This was my first time at Mr. Chow’s and I was excited to try it out. I spent the last 9 years in New York and I didn’t even know where it was located.

The food at Mr. Chow’s is fried Chinese food. Every dish we ate except for the green steamed dumplings and lettuce wraps were deep fried. Fried lobster with sauce, sweet and sour buffalo, lemon chicken, sesame crusted egg rolls, etc. It’s junk food for rich people. Some of the food was very good and other dishes came out a little cold. Mr. Chow’s daughter, China, was the best eater in a room full of people who picked at their plates. I was very impressed with her appetite.

Not knowing if or when I would eat at Mr. Chow’s again, I enjoyed my meal. My one regret is not getting to try the the famous Green Prawns. It is not the place you go for the best Chinese food in town. You go there for a one of a kind dining experience. It’s the perfect place for a pre disco dinner, if you’re looking for that sort of thing.
