Guy’s Night or Gay Night at Casita Del Campo:

Last Thursday Carlos, Nick, and I went to Casita Del Campo for a guy’s night dinner. The first thing I saw when I walked in was the stack of magazines that are pictured. Looking over the dining room I noticed a lot of burly dudes. Good thing we didn’t bring any girls.

-Chips and Salsa: These were standard chips and salsa for a Mexican restaurant. Carlos liberally applied salt and we polished off two servings. Then Carlos ordered guacamole.

-Guacamole: Carlos ordering guacamole after two bowls of chips was a classic guy’s night move. The guacamole was good, but I hardly had room for the chips. I like my guacamole on the spicy side and theirs was mild, but how can you really complain about guacamole.

-Albondigas Soup: We had to choose between salad or soup. This feature of a Mexican dinner is very common at American Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles. The soup was pretty forgettable. I don’t think the cooks are really concerned with preparing this dish. After all the chips I didn’t need this course.

-Enchilada and Hard Taco: I can’t remember if Carlos or Nick ordered this. Looked pretty good. You don’t go to a Mexican restaurant like this to have your mind blown, so as long as the cheese is melted, and the meat tastes good, don’t complain.

-Carnitas: I ordered the carnitas dinner. Look at the breakdown of the portions on my plate. There should be more meat than rice. It didn’t even matter if the carnitas were any good, I needed more meat.

Casita Del Campo was a fine place for guy’s night. We left incredibly full on chips and enjoyed ourselves. I will not be returning based on the amount of meat they gave me. I can’t believe they think customers only want a guacamole sized portion of carnitas. This stuff is basically middle of the road Mexican. Decent to fulfill a craving, but not a place you will bring your friends too. Hopefully they read this and it inspires some change.
