Best Taco Stand in Los Angeles:
The other night I went to an art show at a house in Silverlake. My mission at the art show was to track down one of the tamales I was watching everyone eat. When I finally found the food table, all of the tamales were gone! I was starving. Miranda has a similar passion for Mexican cuisine and i can always depend on her for suggestions. She mentioned a taco spot that her sister had told her about. She had never been, but her sister had raved about it. It was not far from the show so within seconds, we were headed for tacos.
Pulling into the parking lot of a closed tire shop at the corner of Fletcher and Larga, I saw a stand setup with a spit roaster of al pastor and a plastic folding table of condiments. Upon closer inspection, there was also a pot full of bubbling cow and pork parts. This looked like the best taco operation I had seen so far in Los Angeles. I ordered one al pastor and one carnitas. I asked the worker which meat to get for my third taco. He said I should try the buche.
Buche: I am not sold on buche yet. This was the first time I had tried it and besides being too fatty, it was also bland.
Carnitas: Good. Super moist. In the picture of the three tacos it is the one on the right. They didn’t deep fry it to death. I topped it with their avocado salsa, onion, cilantro, and lime. Man. What a taco.
Al Pastor: Heavenly. The sight of the roasting meat seems to makes the the taco taste better, but this best al pastor I have had in a long time. I ordered two more after I was done. Ness, Mike, and Nat ordered an al pastor taco after their first round of tacos. You have to get over to this stand and try this meat.
I can’t recommend this place highly enough. The tacos were unreal and because the workers were at a stand it felt like a parking lot barbecue. We were in an industrial part of town that is completely dead at night so this stand and everyone gathered there felt like a secret society. I would gladly join a secret society of al pastor eaters any day.
