Babycakes Los Angeles:

The actors on the Opening Ceremony shoot needed a sugar fix and heard Babycakes NYC just opened a Los Angeles branch. While out picking up dinner for everyone Nick, Sam, and I stopped by BabyCakes for some of their vegan confections. Babycakes NYC is a vegan bakery that has managed to capitalize on the cupcake craze in New York and is looking to do the same in Los Angeles.

I don’t think vegan cupcakes are good because sugar, gluten, and wheat are what makes a real cupcake good. If you are allergic to sugar, gluten, or wheat I understand the excitement for Babycakes. For those eating Babycakes as a healthier alternative to the real thing, stop. Cupcakes were not made to be healthy.

Babycakes is also the newest face of gentrification in downtown Los Angeles. The last picture is the east side of the block where Babycakes is located. Westside of the block is four dollar gluten free cupcakes and the Eastside is tent city. Finally a block where rich and poor alike can find their fix.
