Lunch On An Opening Ceremony Commerical:

Last week I produced an Opening Ceremony short with David. The short was directed by Gia and Tracy and starred Jason Schwartzman and Kirsten Dunst. Part of my job was to figure out lunch. We decided on sandwiches from Larchmont Village Cheese and Wine.

I got a sandwich with soppresatta salami, spinach manchego cheese, mixed greens, sundried tomato spread, extra virgin olive oil, and basalmic vinegar. In the first picture I took of the sandwich it looks pretty tasty. The second picture shows the nasty side of the sandwich. The sundried tomato spread has reached the clear stage that mayonnaise based spreads get when they have been sitting out for awhile. Biting into that portion of the sandwich could make you vomit. Check the third photo where you can see how much excess sundried tomato spread is left. Larchmont is a gourmet cheese and wine shop who uses high quality products but they managed to ruin the second half of my sandwich with all this spread. The ingredients when put together should form a happy marriage of flavor, so they don’t need to overpower the flavor with mayonnaise. I know people who hate mayonnaise and I believe this hatred is because of sandwiches made like the one you see in these photos.

Larchmont Village Cheese and Wine is a highly regarded and so popular that they run out of bread most days around 2pm. The most popular sandwich on set was the prosciutto and fresh mozarella which didn’t come with the sun-dried tomato spread. No one else had complaints about their sandwiches. Overall I think it is a very good place to get a gourmet deli sandwich, I just wish they would pay attention to their proportions. I don’t think anyone in the world wants extra mayonnaise, but when used in moderation I don’t know how you could find anything wrong with it.
