Dinner at the Wawona Hotel:

We decided to go to the Wawona Hotel Dining Room for dinner on our last night in Yosemite. Cooking at the house had yielded great results, but it was Saturday night and we had to hit the town. The Wawona is a beautiful old hotel above the Yosemite valley that was built in 1876. Dinner was in served in a large dining corner dining room with dim lights and huge windows. It was not fancy but very charming.

The food was another story. It was the worst meal I have had with a group of people in a long time. I was with five other people and every single person thought their food was bad. Every dish arrived cold. Cold food is inexcusable and to top it off this stuff didn’t even taste good. The side of steamed vegetables or rice pilaf with every dish showed no imagination by the kitchen. It’s not like we are ordering entrees at a diner in Queens. The best thing we had were the desserts, which were decent. The pine nut pie was an interesting but failed variation of pecan pie.

The worst part is this meal ran my Dad over $300. When you step into a restaurant planning to drop over forty a person for dinner there is a minimum level of quality to be expected. I mean at least the food should be hot. There is only one person to blame for this mishap and that is the Delaware North Companies. They oversee food services for Yosemite and from the meal at Degnan’s Deli to this meal at the Wawona it is clear they don’t care about delivering a quality service. I guess they figure since they have no competition they don’t have to put much energy into providing an enjoyable dining experience. They should be embarrassed.
