Pollo Ala Brasa:

I had been reading about Pollo Ala Brasa and driving by it my first week in Los Angeles enough that I had to try it. I have never been big on ordering chicken from a restaurant but recently I rediscovered the joys of well cooked chicken.

Pollo Ala Brasa is a Peruvian rotisserie chicken spot that looks like such a dump of a place that you know it has to be good. I ordered a half a chicken with fries and salad for myself and a quarter chicken with fries and salad for Nat. I didn’t touch my salad. Based on the interior of the restaurant alone I wouldn’t trust uncooked vegetables from this place. The real kicker was the piece of purple cauliflower you can see in the salad picture. I am sure that purple cauliflower is not uncommon and probably good but I was here for the chicken.

The chicken was amazing. So good in fact,  there were times I was eating the skin and thought it was fried chicken. The meat was perfectly moist and whatever the seasoning was I want to buy some. It came with a side of aji sauce which was not needed because the chicken was so good.

The fries were good and even better when dipped in the aji sauce. The ratio of fried outside to potato meat inside was well balanced. The fries that the chicken rested on tasted the best because of the added chicken flavor.

Pollo Ala Brasa can now lay claim to one of my favorite spots to eat in Los Angeles. I think all told the meal cost around $17 dollars for two people. Next time I may just order a whole chicken with no sides. There really is nothing else on the menu that can top their bird. You really need to try this.
