After the Moma Michael and I got lunch at La Taqueria in San Francisco’s Mission District. This has become one of my favorite places to eat in the world and I make it a point to eat here any time I am back.
The taco’s we ordered are oiled and placed on a griddle to melt a slice of cheese. They wrap that tortilla with a fresh corn tortilla and pile on all the ingredients you would find in their burrito. I have never seen a taco prepared like this anywhere and I am kind of surprised Taco Bell has not tried to recreate it. The first one you see is carnitas and the second one is carne asada. This place is always cracking so the meat is always fresh off the grill. I can’t begin to describe how good it is to bite through the fresh guacamole, salsa, and sour cream to the warm center of meat and cheese. Truly divine. We ordered chips with guacamole and salsa which was fine. Their chips are the thick which I like but the guacamole is nothing more then mashed avocado so it’s lacking spice.
La Taqueria is also known for serving their burritos without rice. This is not the norm for a “Mission” style burrito but you don’t miss the rice at all. Everything at La Taqueria is top notch and it’s inspiring to see the pace at which they work considering the quality of their food. I hope the pictures do this place justice and if you have never been there before you are kidding yourself.
