I went to Prune on Sunday and if you are not familiar with the restaurant it is a real “foodie” brunch spot. All of the meals they serve there are “foodie” but they are most known for brunch which meant there was a two hour wait. It is a good place but the ingredients are so rich you can’t eat again until the next day.
The most interesting item I had at Prune was a Bloody Mary. This will hopefully be the first in a recurring series of Bloody Mary’s I talk about on DanEats because everywhere you go they are different and some are drastically better than the others. You can also break down their ingredients which I find to be fascinating. At Prune they take the bloody mary very seriously so much so they devote an entire menu to it. The Mary pictured above is called a Green Lake. The Green Lake is made of Absolut vodka and Prune’s own Bloody Mary mix. To add some spice to the Mary they give you a ball of wasabi which you can see in the photo as well as a what they call a beef jerky “swizzler”. I was afraid to use all the wasabi at first fearing I would ruin the drink by making it too hot but as it turned out I needed the entire green ball in the there. I will admit I was chose this Mary over any other on the menu because I was so intrigued by the “swizzler”. I couldn’t imagine how good a gourmet Slim Jim would taste as an accompaniment to this firey beverage. Turns out the “swizzler” was gross. Nat said it tasted like dog food which given the consistency and lack of flavor was spot on. To the left of the Mary in the photo is a shot of beer that you get with every drink. We asked the waiter when we were supposed to drink it and she told us before or after. The beer was red strip and it was kind of pointless if you ask me. It is that kind of attention to detail that plague’s Prune. Slim Jim’s are good just the way they are and a shot of beer while looking cool adds nothing to a Bloody Mary. I will say the drink was good but with the food being so heavy and being slightly dehydrated I couldn’t finish it. Stay tuned for Mary action.
