Yesterday I finally found myself in Brooklyn on a rampage for a coat. Ricky had tipped me off to this place Stella Dallas in Williamsburg so once Tyler and I were up and at ‘em we were on a roundabout cab ride through BK. Stella Dallas proved to be a success and the next part of our mission was upon us; Tyler and I needed to figure out where to eat. Thankfully, Rick was on his way to meet up. Rick is the daytime weekend king of Brooklyn. I am not a fan of Williamsburg in the least but from time to time you have to go over there because Manhattan can’t accommodate your needs. I told Tyler I don’t like Williamsburg because of it’s bad architecture. It’s more complicated than architecture but it got him off my back for a bit. First move was to some restaurant that Tyler used to like when he worked at Nom De Guerre in Brooklyn. That Nom De Guerre branch has been closed for years and it turned out Tyler’s restaurant had also changed hands and now was a cafe of some sorts. I was still craving a burger since I didn’t get one from the night before so that was want I intended to eat. Rick took us by Juliette and Egg which both didn’t feel right just looking at them from the outside. Also Rick said he would never eat at a restaurant named Egg. I guess we were being pretty judgmental. Gonna to have to work on that. I remembered eating in some old diner a few years ago but the food was nicer than standard diner fare. Rick had also mentioned a place where they filmed Kelis’ Milkshake video that was a diner. Turned out we were both talking about Relish as we sat down at the counter ready to get into it. Relish hit the spot. Tyler ordered smoked salmon eggs benedict and I got the cheeseburger medium rare. You can see the in the photo I took that bottom of the bun was stained from burger juice. Burger juice is a crucial element to a good burger and usually only comes with a medium rare patty. If your not getting more than medium rare you are kind of blowing your beef experience. My one complaint was the size of the lettuce they gave me. I don’t know if the picture does it justice but it was as big as my face. I wanted to take a photo of it over my face but didn’t want to be rude. The overwhelming size made it impossible to use as it would mess up the ratios of meat, bread, onions, and cheese. When you are out to eat with only guys a major plus is a flirty waitress. If for no reason but it keeps you on your toes the whole meal. You might also notice in the top left corner of my burger shot the side of chipotle mayo. Chipotle mayo might be the best form of mayonnaise to date and really livens up a plate of fries. Maybe later I will teach you how to make chipotle mayo because it is much easier than you would think. After we finished eating we shot a couple of games of pool at this place, The Levee, which offered complimentary cheese puffs in bowls all over the place. I didn’t sample these little neon orange balls but Tyler used them to tide him over until dinner so I am sure they were good. There were empty clear plastic casks from Utz which I gathered contained cheese balls at one point. All in all a successful trip to Brooklyn. I don’ know when I will be back but I will and next time I will be armed with a destination to eat. You can’t always count on your food experience to work out on a whim there.
