So last night I left my house around 8 with a hankering for a cheese burger. It was a Friday night in New York and I really wanted to go out to dinner with someone.  I stopped by the studio and everyone there was working so I took them off my list of potential dinner candidates. With both my friends Tyler and Ricky taking naps I was in a state of limbo. I walked back and forth from the studio to Orchard and Canal twice. Still no options. Popeye’s was really looking like a good option but I had to resist the temptation thinking something better would come along if I was patient. I walked up to the soccer field on Grand and Chrystie and watched soccer for a bit until I got contact with Nick Panama. He was going to a Gaslight Anthem concert at Brooklyn Bowl and had a plus one. I had heard of the band before but never heard the music so I thought why not check it out. Also Brooklyn Bowl is recently opened and Blue Ribbon is handling the food so I was thinking maybe I could check out the restaurant there. Turns out Panama had already ate so I was on my own. I had to decide what I could get that was mobile and good. I also added the criteria of no bread because I am trying to hold off on the bread. This didn’t leave me with much options as bread is the best vehicle for making food mobile. As I sped up 2nd avenue with St. Marks looming an option popped into my head that I had always wanted to try.Pommes Frites has always looked good to me when I would pass by but I never was in the mood for French Fries like that. I walked inside and stood at the counter staring at the menu while this guy kept asking me what I wanted. A lady at the counter was sampling dipping sauces because they have over twenty. Bingo. I am always down for a free sample. I stepped up and asked to try the lemon dill mayo to which I received a napkin with some sauce on it and about 8 fries. The lemon dill mayo reminded me tartar sauce for some reason. I didn’t thin there was dill in tartar sauce but now as I type this I realize that maybe they use dill pickles for tartar sauce hence the similar taste. With 20 dipping sauce options I wasn’t about to only experience one so I had to figure out what my second sauce would be. I was torn between the garlic mayo, wasabi mayo, or the parmesan peppercorn. I ruled out garlic mayo and asked the worker which was better from my two options. Parmesan peppercorn was his choice. I was off to Panama’s house armed with a mountain of fries and two dipping sauces. The Parmesan Peppercorn was really special and if I go back that is what I will be getting. Overall the Pommes Frites is really good. I would return I just don’t know how often I will be eating under those circumstances. Also if you click the Pommes Frites link you can see that New York Magazine’s reccommended dish is the parmesan peppercorn. Always pays off to ask the staff.
